Obituary of Judith Lynne Jurok

October 1, 1949 - Calgary, Alberta

September 20, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Judith Jurok, beloved wife of Jon Jurok of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021, at the age of 71 years.

Judy, as we all know her, was born and raised in Calgary on October 1, 1949. Her mother, Esther Thompson, was born in Mantario, SK, and her father, Garry Evans, in Three Hills, AB. Judy, while living in Calgary, met Johann (Jon) Jurok through a mutual friend and a relationship would soon blossom down at the local Chicken Chalet.  After that first impromptu meeting, Judy would then return in search of Jon (and his convertible Mustang!) after having made quite a first impression. Success ensued and a new chapter of her life began.  Judy and Jon were subsequently married on August 30, 1969. Judy often noted that her proudest accomplishment was her family. To which she lovingly devoted much of her time and took great joy in finding any reason to celebrate being together. She was a passionately creative person and could often be found adding her personal touch to any treasure she came across. Along her artistic journey, Judy was always keen to learn new skills and craftsmanship to broaden her expression including, stained glass, mosaic tile work, sandblasting and, most recently, the art of making of jewelry. With many of her creations adorning the homes of those she loved. Some of Judy’s most memorable vacations were in Hawaii with her husband and children.  The time spent there leaving such an impact that she often reminisced, whenever the chance arose, about the flowers, the ambiance, and the food. These memories only matched by her time spent in France alongside her daughter Sheri. And who could blame her, it was a perfect girl’s getaway with her best friend.  The sights, sounds, the art and culture all leaving a lasting impact on both. She will be most remembered for her warm and loving presence, her deep love of cats, big hugs, and her infectious smile.

Besides her loving husband Johann (Jon) Jurok of Calgary, AB, Judy is survived by her son Jason (Javiera) of Calgary, AB, her brother Guy Evans (Chris Lamy) of Calgary, AB, her three grandchildren, Julien Lavertu, Elise Lavertu of Cochrane, AB and Matias Jurok of Calgary, AB; her mother-in-law Bertha Jurok and her brother-in-law Peter Jurok of Calgary, AB. Judy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Judy was predeceased by her daughter, Sheri Lavertu (nee Jurok) and her parents, Garry and Esther Evans

At Judy’s request, and to fulfill her wish to keep those she cared for safe during this difficult time, a small, private funeral service will be held at McInnis & Holloway. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.  If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Calgary Health Foundation – Specific Area, Suite 800, 11012 Macleod Trail S.E., Calgary, AB  T2J 6A5, Telephone: (403)943-0615, www.thetrust.ca. in support of the Intensive Care Unit at the Rockyview General Hospital where she received such warm and caring attention.
