Obituary of Jim Kondo

January 28, 1929 - Lyalta, Alberta
September 28, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

With great sadness we announce that James (Jim) Koha Kondo, beloved husband of Margaret Kondo, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the age of 92 years. After a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s, Jim is now at rest.

Jim was born on a farm in Lyalta, Alberta, and attended a one-room school there. His education continued at Strathmore High School, S.A.I.T. and a short stint at the University of Calgary. He was employed by Shell Canada for 32 years. He also worked and expanded the farm in Lyalta. Jim started volunteering for the Calgary Police Services (C.P.S.) during the Winter Olympics in 1988 and continued as a volunteer for the C.P.S. Child Identification program and at the C.P.S. Interpretive Centre. He also volunteered for his church and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Jim was happy to be able to help others in the community. He was a member of the Calgary Winter Club where he curled, played tennis, and played bridge. He joined the Links at Country Hills Golf Club, where he enjoyed his passion of playing golf. Jim obtained his flying license as a young man, achieving one of his childhood dreams, at the Chinook Flying School. He was very grateful to his many friends and colleagues for their fellowship and laughter throughout the years.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret, his loving daughters, Jane (Justin Saly), Anne (David Loomis), and Lynn (Carl Hubbard); his grandchildren, Lauren and James, Jon, Kaitlyn and Cian; his sister, Jean Anderson (nee Kondo); and many nephews and nieces. Jim was predeceased by his sister Bernice Paquet (nee Kondo), and brothers-in-law, Murray Anderson and John Paquet.

There will be no service at Jim’s request. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes to the Wild Rose United Church Foundation, https://wildroseunited.ca/fundraising-and-donating.html, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Jim was also very grateful to his caregivers at Carewest Colonel Belcher for their care and kindness.

In living memory of James Kondo, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
