Glenda Cornish (nee Shantz)

Obituary of Glenda Lorraine Cornish (nee Shantz)

May 10, 1948 - Calgary, Alberta
September 28, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Glenda Cornish, beloved wife of the late Terrance Cornish, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

Glenda attended Crossfield High School before obtaining her X-Ray Technician certification from SAIT. Glenda worked as an X-Ray Technician, a Veterinary Clinic Assistant and as a Health Care Aide. When she was not working Glenda volunteered for 4-H, and the Suicide Prevention Line.

She loved animals of all varieties and has owned one of almost everything through her life! She enjoyed her pets, which she surrounded herself with her entire life. She was always artistic and through the years practiced various forms of art-leatherwork, painting on ceramics and most recently, oil painting. Glenda was never really a traveller having married a dairy farmer; she and Terry did celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary with an epic trip to Hawaii.

She will be remembered most for her dry wit and ability to make and maintain close friends.

Glenda is survived by her son, Christopher Cornish of Cardston, AB, her daughter and family, Shannon Brooker, her husband Jeff Brooker, and two children: Mackenzie and Russell Brooker all of Calgary, AB; and her beloved cat Gregory.

Glenda was predeceased by her husband Terrance Cornish, parents, Russell and Kathleen Shantz; brother Glenn Shantz, and beloved pets Bobby and Shadow whom she dreamed of joining over the rainbow bridge.

Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

Special thank you to the staff at Age Care Skypoint and Sage Hill Retirement Residence for the care they provided her in her hours of need.

In living memory of Glenda Cornish, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Rainbow Bridge Poem,

“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….”

We see her seeking out that rainbow bridge and reuniting with her numerous lost but never forgotten pets.
