Obituary of Svend Ludvig SORENSEN

Svend Sorensen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the age of 84 years.

Born in Hodde, Denmark, Svend immigrated to Canada at the age of eighteen. After arriving, he joined his brother Arne in the drywall trade helping to build many homes in the Calgary area. Svend met his wife-to-be Inge-Lise Laerz through mutual friends at the Danish Canadian Club, where he was an active member since arriving in Canada. After marriage in 1964 and three kids, he set out to build an acreage home in the De Winton area with help of friends and family. Life on the acreage instilled his own strong work ethic in his children. He always made time for fun activities with skating rinks in the yard, tube rides behind the snowmobile, boat rides, waterskiing, and frequent picnics by the Highwood River. In 1970, Svend built a cabin near Invermere that provided many positive memories and many great times with close family and friends. Having moved from another country with opportunity in front of him, Svend worked extremely hard through his life in a selfless manner to build opportunities for the future for his children.

Svend is survived by his children, Jo-Ann Liebe of Regina, SK, Kristine Huff of Calgary, AB, and Hans Sorensen (Becky) of Calgary, AB; and six lovely granddaughters, Dana, Lauren, Rhea, Emily, Claire and Charlotte. He is also survived by his sister Edith Olesen of Denmark, Hanne (Jorgen) Rasmussen of Okotoks, AB, and Thomas (Lizbeth) Sorensen of Denmark. Svend was predeceased by his brother Arne (Rosemary) Sorensen of Calgary, AB.
