Obituary of Sleiman Youssef Daklala

March 10, 1948 - Jeb Jannine, Lebanon
October 2, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Sleiman Daklala, beloved husband of Aziza Daklala (nee Estephan) of 44 years, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the age of 73 years.

Sleiman was born in Jib Jannine, Lebanon on March 10, 1948. He immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1974 and started a successful pita bread business with his three brothers in 1975, famously known as Byblos Bakery. In his spare time, he loved gardening, fishing, going for long walks, doing DIY projects around the house and had the utmost passion for baking. He put his whole heart and soul in everything he did and loved to spend time with his family. He will be most remembered for his kindness, generosity, hospitality, loving heart, and words of wisdom - “if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything”.

Sleiman is survived by his wife, Aziza, his son Joseph Daklala, two daughters, Joslyn Tokarchuk and Joanna Aboudiwan; son-in-law George Aboudiwan and two grandchildren, Kayla and Isabella; three brothers, Salim (Rita), George (Cris), and Elias (Yolla) Daklala; one sister Georgette (Riad) Khouri, and one brother-in-law Lou Salloum, all of Calgary, AB as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother Helwe Abboud of Jib Jannine, Lebanon. Sleiman was predeceased by his father Youssef Daklala of Jib Jannine, Lebanon and his sister, Helly Salloum of Calgary, AB. 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 5:00 p.m. Prayers and Tributes to follow at 7:00 p.m. Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Daklala’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.

A Private Family Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of Peace Maronite Catholic Parish of Calgary. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Reception to follow in the main hall at Our Lady of Peace Maronite Catholic Parish of Calgary. 

In living memory of Sleiman Daklala, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
