Obituary of Dorothy Rae Epp

October 2, 1935 - Calgary, Alberta

October 5, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

With profound heartache, the family of Dorothy Rae Epp does sadly announce her peaceful passing at the Rocky View Hospital in the early morning hours of Tuesday October 5, 2021.

‘Do Rae’ was born Oct 2, 1935 and had celebrated her 86 birthday just days before succumbing to a brief illness of pneumonia. From an early age, Dorothy excelled at sports, loved nature, the outdoors, gardening, and animals, and was happiest in her later years walking her dogs (and cats) and tending to the incredible flowers, trees, and fish-filled pond, all on the very same property and abundant yard left to her by her own mother (Dorothy Mae Pilling). Do Rae cherished the sense of history in the property, as the original family home was the very first address established in the area in 1959. With so many lifelong memories of youth and family in the neighborhood, she spared no effort and took personal pride in maintaining the beauty of her yard as well as the cleanliness of the park and surrounding area. Her yard and her gardens were Dorothy’s passion and will continue to be a visible tribute and legacy.

She is survived to cherish her memory by; Abram Epp, her loving husband whom she first met some 72 years ago, and to whom she was married for 62 of those wonderful years, son David Epp and his wife Tawny Chong, daughter Karin Morrow, grandchildren, Ashley Dale, Caitlyn Watson, Christopher Morrow, and Michael Morrow. Dorothy is also survived by her brother Loran Pilling and his wife Judy, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. A special note is the exceptional bond that Do Rae always shared with Loran, as only a truly close brother and sister can know.

Dorothy Rae Epp will join her parents Dorothy Mae and Loran Pilling under the apple tree, and while it has been beyond difficult to say our private good-byes to Do Rae, the family looks forward to a public celebration of her life to be held at a later date, and when current events more easily allow. Deepest love and gratitude from the entire family goes out to all who have sent their sympathies and who have provided an incredible outpouring of support. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Dorothy Epp, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
