Obituary of Geoffrey Harwood Bate

February 17, 1948 – Edmonton, Alberta
October 15, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Geoffrey Harwood Bate of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

Geoff was born in Edmonton and completed his schooling and university there. Following graduation with a BA in Economics, Geoff moved to Calgary to manage the family business. He was involved with and sat on as an executive of the Calgary Construction Association. His calm and thoughtful presence made negotiations much easier. A firm handshake would often close a deal. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, and a faithful member of Christ Church where he was a former warden and lay reader at the early service. Family came first with Geoff. He enjoyed teaching his children how to ski, and watched many ski races and hockey games.

He leaves to mourn his wife Lorna, children, Catherine, Brian (Tammy); and his beloved granddaughter Olivia Grace. Geoff is survived by his sisters, Margaret (Don) Bowen, Kate (Terry) Freeman; sisters-in-law, Pauline Bate, Sonja Skori, Lavina Stanton; John (Sharon) Larson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Ed Bate, brother Douglas, brothers-in-law, Wally Lepp, Len Skori, Doug Stanton; and stepmother Jean M. Bate.
