Condolences
On behalf of the Slotboom family, my mother MajBritt, my late father Robert, and their children Sig, Lisette, Robin and myself Tony, I wish to extend our condolences and sadness at Mr. Westra's passing. He is forever in our fond memories.
Dear family,
Herewith we give again our sincere condolences to all of you. Janus and I knew that Oom Rob loved to life and he fight long but in the end he had to let loose. Leaving tante Loes, children and grand children with very good memories to live on. We will all miss him, in summertime for the family abroad for ever for the Canadians.
For in summertime we met in the cabin, central point. Discussions took place, from oil till indians, it all came along. Sometimes too conservative for me, mostly he started me thinking it over again. In his sense of humor it always ended! When I watch his foto, I can still see this funiness.
I remember me having a date with a gorgious Canadian, but he gave no permission! I was a bit angry, but also felt myself safe! It was my first visit to Calgary at the age of 19, there were much more to come.
Uncle Rob will stay in my memories, like my father. We do hope that good memories will take over the grieve. He had a good life! Hopefully is that of comfort.
With great warmness, Janus Joke, Maudy and Stijn.
Pim
Dear aunt Loes and cousins Igor, Allard, Arne, Menno, Yolande and families,
Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.
Your husband, father and grandfather will be dearly missed. Cherish all the good memories and keep him alive in your hearts.
I have precious memories of my uncle Rob. It was always fun and interesting to listen to his stories about life and work abroad, which he did in different countries and for many years.
I am very grateful to him and my aunt Loes for taking in my family when we moved to Canada in 2010.
Over the years we had great moments and dinners together and it was always fun to have conversations in Dutch.
The whole Westra family made us feel at home here and we are very grateful for that.
With much love I helped out my aunt and uncle.
Paul
Sending our, including Rita, but also Johan's, sincere condolences to tante Louise, Igor, Allard, Arne, Menno and Jolande and their respective partners/family.
Oom Rob was one of a kind! My mother Corrian has told me many funny stories related to oom Rob when they were kids and later teenagers and students. Never a dull moment with oom Rob! But he could also be serious and tell about the adventurous life he and tante Louise had in Libya, Bahrain and Indonesia and about his hobbies.
When my mother in Holland needed more care, oom Rob bought a Senseo (coffee pad) machine for her, as he hoped that the people taking care of my mother a few times a day would stay longer and talk with her when drinking coffee at her home. And that happened! It was a wonderful gift as my mother enjoyed the company of people very much.
I also fondly remember the visits to their home in Calgary and stay overs at the cabin and our fish trips on the lake and barbecuing the freshly caught rainbow trout, stuffed with herbs by my aunt Louise.
Oom Rob will be missed, that's for sure! We will cherish the wonderful memories of and with oom Rob
Louise & family: condolences to you and family. I met Rob where he became an employee of Canterra Energy in the 1980's.
Rob was a very professional , capable geologist and paleontologist and more importantly an honorable individual. WE enjoyed seeing Rob in the past years at the annual boxing day dinner at mutual friends. May he rest in peace after a life well lived.
