Condolences
Uncle Gene was a strong, vibrant, and kind person. His deep voice and warm smile made me feel safe. I loved the smell of his pipe and the way he always called our mom ‘kid’. He will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with Auntie Anne and all the cousins.

Such a loving tribute of an incredible Man, Uncle, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
I so admired his stories and insights on many topics we talk about at family reunions.
I will miss Uncle Gene.
Love to all.
Neela Streifel.
A beautiful service. A lovely tribute to an amazing man. Thankful for the live stream, so I was able to share in this day, and share in all the wonderful memories, and Uncle Gene's "best kept secrets". It is true Uncle....love makes the world go around. Rest in Peace.....Love Susan (Streifel) Macdonald
What an absolutely lovely service and memorialization of Uncle Gene. Sending love and hugs to all the family.

Wishing that I could join you all in person today.
Uncle Gene seemed invincible to me. He was dedicated to his family and was someone who lived a meaningful life with integrity and purpose. I will always hold fond memories of the summers that I spent with my cousins in the 'big city', Uncle Gene and Aunt Anne never phased by one more body in their household. Also, the expert navigation of the Calgary traffic, even at 90, always amazed me and the smell of pipe smoke that made me feel a little nauseous.
Sending many warm and heartfelt wishes your way. Take care care.
Love Susan, Anthony, Kate and Shane Smuk

I only had the privilege to meet Mr. Swain on a few occasions, but I know much about him through his son, Tony, a good friend of mine. Mr. Swain was a man of faith, an historian, an outdoorsman, and a terrific husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an example to us all with regards to how to live a full and meaningful life. My deepest condolences to all who love him.
Gene volunteered with Calgary Meals on Wheels for three decades, donating thousands of hours of service alongside his wife Anne. Their volunteerism has been honoured with awards, and our community is stronger because of their dedication to ensuring their neighbours were well-fed and felt cared for and connected. On behalf of everyone at Calgary Meals on Wheels, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Anne and the dear family and friends of Gene during this difficult time. Sincerely, the Staff of Calgary Meals on Wheels

Dear Betty and Family,
I was so sadden to learn of the passing of your dad. I will treasure the stories you shared of your dad living life to the fullest and enjoying good health during his golden years. May he Rest in Peace and may you find comfort in the family and friends who surround you during this difficult time. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Tracy Horan
I was deeply saddened to hear from Mike of Gene's passing. Gene and Anne's place in Kingsland was literally a second home to me growing up. The Swain's backdoor was never locked and they were always welcoming. I have fond memories of Gene building his sailboat. I think it was a Fireball, and I was amazed that anyone could create such a beautiful piece of work. I still am.
A long life graced by hard work, service to others and family. My heartfelt condolences to Anne and the entire Swain family.
Your friend, Steve Cameron
Dear Anne,
Betty and I have such wonderful memories of you over many years, especially at St. Gerard's. I have often pictured both of you as Roy Rogers and Dale Evans riding off into the sunset. We will attend the service on Friday, December 10 and look forward to seeing you. May Our Dear Lord intervene with His Healing Presence, Comfort and Peace to you and all family members during this difficult period of grieving.
With much love, Paul & Betty Thompson
