Condolences
I only learned of Stephen's passing today. He gave me a break by hiring me as a green legal assistant after many months of sending out resumes. He was the nicest man to work for and helped me immensely. If something wasn't understood he would patiently explain it to me. Thanks to him I progressed from a junior legal assistant to eventually becoming a paralegal. And he had a great sense of humour. He asked once how I liked to run things administratively. I replied: tell me what you want and then leave me alone to do it. He gave that great smile and said fair enough. I have never had a better employer. It was a privilege to work with and for him.
I got to know Stephen through provincial politics. He was always a gentleman whether dealing with volunteers, a campaign deadline or reporting on election finances. He would take the time to chat and I always felt listened to.
His approach will be missed as an example of a caring citizen.
Thank you to Stephen and my best to the family.
I'm very sorry to hear of Stephen's passing. He was a great colleague in the practice of law, a kind man and a fair lawyer. He'll be missed in the Calgary Bar. My condolences to his family. Judy Boyes
So sad to hear of his passing! He was an exceptional lawyer who truly cared for his clients. My condolences go out to his family. He will be greatly missed.
I was so shocked to learn of Stephen's passing. He was an incredible person to have been in the company of. A fearless rider, that I looked up to for his courage and determination to perfect his riding in several riding lessons I shared with him. He was kind, supportive and caring to everyone he was around. My sincerest sympathies go out to Chris and Stephen's family and friends.

Oh Chris and family, I am so so shocked and sad to hear of Stephen's passing! I worked in the same office as Stephen back in 1998. I got to know Stephen at that time and what an exceptional man. His sense of humor, the way he treated staff and colleagues and clients. Stephen was then my personal lawyer back in 2000 and what a fantastic lawyer! Dedicated, professional and knowledgeable. I have kept in touch with Stephen and it wasn't so long ago that he (as always) ask how I was and how my family was. I asked the same and he just spoke so highly of Chris and updated me on how his children were all doing. He was so proud of all of you. I will truly miss this incredible man both personally and professionally!

Chris and Family...
I have only known Stephen since joining Wintergreen in 2016, but what a joy those years have been when together. He always expressed sincere interest in others, his humour and passion were positively infectious. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the memorial, but please know that our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Hope family. He will be missed and forever remembered.

Words cannot express! Best friend, mentor, confidant for 37 years. Live , love and laugh he did, just short changed. Memories never forgotten. ❤
I met Stephen almost 20 years ago and he had such a friendly demeanour. My condolences go out to Christine and the family. He will be missed.
I am so sad to hear of Stephen’s passing. I had met Stephen through my work as a financial counsellor and Bankrupcty Trustee. We would often lunch and market to each other or visit while swimming in the local YMCA pool in the early 1990s and became friends. He was a very kind, caring and compassionate person, dedicated to his profession and family. We had shared many conversations about dealing with our parents as they struggled with aging and dementia, raising children and parenting, and how happy he was when he met Christine. Stephen always shared wisdom and love in these conversations. I extend my sincere condolences to Stephen’s family and my wishes that all their memories of him bring smiles to their hearts.

Stephen and I were at Law School in Manitoba together. I have only pleasant memories of him. I was particularly taken with his woolly sweaters with perfectly matching elbow patches! Stephen was a truly lovely person. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. David Ehinger (Class of '80)
I am one of Stephen Hope's law school classmates -- Robson Hall Class of 1980. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. In every positive sense of the word, Stephen was a "gentleman". He was highly regarded by all his classmates. While we may not have been best friends, we were reasonably close. I specifically remember that we were part of a study group helping each other survive Jack London's Tax I course. I valued my acquaintance with Stephen. After graduation, we went in separate directions -- Stephen to Calgary and me to Saskatoon. We occasionally reconnected through class reunions and CBA meetings. I valued those experiences as much as in law school.
I extend my sincere condolences to Stephen's wife and daughters. May they draw comfort from their memories of this wonderful man.
Stephen was a kind man with a generous spirit. I had the fortune of working with him on opposite sides of a few files and always found him to be honest and forthright. He was a pleasure to deal with. I send my sympathies to the family. David Pick
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our most sincere condolences. Gary and Marina
I first met Stephen when we were children in Winnipeg. We reconnected in Calgary in 1990.
Stephen was a gifted lawyer and one of the kindest people I have known.
His passing is a great loss. My sincere condolences to Chris, his daughters and family
My sincere condolences. My relationship with Stephen was on a professional basis (he was my family lawyer for almost 20 years), but I always recognized him as a genuinely lovely man, an excellent human being.
Chris and Family: We are very sorry to hear about the passing of Stephen. He was a sweet and humble human being and displayed this kind demeanour while golfing at Wintergreen. I will always remember his gentle spirit while getting ready to play a round of golf while conversing with the members. We are always grateful for the outstanding work he did for the Wintergreen Society. We are so sorry for your loss and pray that your friends and family support you at this time. Jim and I will be hitting our next ball at WG for Stephen. May he rest in peace! Debbie and Jim Dymianiw
