Obituary of Mary Bailey

February 25, 1933 – Newmarket, Ontario

October 25, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Mary Bailey of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Mary grew up in Ontario. She trained as hairdresser but wanted something else out of life. Mary moved to Calgary in 1961 and raised her young son on her own. She was a stenographer for Calgary Family Services for many years and made some good friends there.  Mary was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed playing the piano for church services. Mary had many interests. She enjoyed flowers, her gardens in the summer and her African violets all year round in the house. Mary was passionate about bird watching and raised canaries. Her major loves were her dogs, Frisky and Diamond. Her favourite trip was a day trip to Churchill to see the polar bears.

Mary is survived by her older sister, May Bowles (Ontario); her son and his wife, Richard and Rita; her granddaughter and her husband, Rebecca and Yorik; her grandson and his wife, Michael and Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Aurora and Thomas; as well as nieces, Julie and Lori, and nephews, Ian, Ivan and Gary. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Verna and Victor Reynolds, and her brother Albert.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Bailey’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
