Obituary of Margaret Lorraine Hargreaves (nee Durno)

Mom is now at home, having passed quietly on October 30, 2021 at the age of 92 but having remained forever young in her mind. Lorraine was born in Calgary, March 20, 1929 and rarely left Calgary, Scarboro, except for the odd vacation. She was a Calgarian of proud Scottish heritage, that she kept alive through stories, wearing of kilts and sayings. Mom would often say it was time for a gathering of the Clan.

Mom leaves behind: 3 children, George (Colleen), Jane Crosley (Brian) and Allan (Patti Grier); 8 grandchildren, Ian Hargreaves, Graeme Hargreaves (Sarah), Duncan Crosley (Nina), Ross Hargreaves (Ashley), Thomas Crosley, Gillian Crosley, Thomas Grier (Sarah Massie) and Michael Grier (Meghan Lindsay) ; 4 great grandchildren, Audrey, Alessia, Jack and Hailey and her brother Al Durno (Sally).

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Edward Hargreaves in 2009, by her sister Regina Isobel (Jean) Duck and by her brother John William Durno.

Mom’s passion was for her family – period. She was also known to indulge in bridge twice a week and loved to garden. Her 100 ft rose hedge was admired by all whom walked by. She loved needle work. As she rocked us on her knees as babies, she would be working on yet another bedspread, some of which won ribbons in the needle work competition at the Calgary Stampede. She volunteered for many charitable organizations including; Girl Guides, Scouts Canada and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Her greatest joy was found in her last volunteer position on the Rockyview Hospital Post Partum units and NICU. She cuddled babies for over 25 years. She was known throughout Rockyview as ‘Mrs. H’.

Our sincere thanks to the staff at The Manors of Fisher Creek for the care, compassion and love they gave our mother. Lorraine’s wish that there be no service will be respected. There will be a clan gathering in celebration of her life.
