My earliest memories of Great Auntie Joyce and Great Uncle Don are from when I was elementary school aged and they lived in Tsawwassen. As a child I thought their house was a “palace” with the big white columns at the front entrance and an immaculate garden of trees, flowers and terraced grass. The house sparkled with her loving attention. I remember staying overnight without my parents. We baked cookies and built a jigsaw puzzle. At family dinners, I always looked forward to her yummy, creamy green Jello pineapple and walnut salad.
Over the years, it was a joke between us that she never gave me enough clues so I could figure out how old she was. It was a BIG secret…that is, until she announced her 90th birthday. My son and I drove from the coast to visit her that Sept. A precious visit…our last. I will miss her gentle presence, phone visits and her annual Christmas greeting cards with her perfectly penned note. Beautiful warm memories to cherish. She touched my heart and life.
May your memories be a comfort to you in this time of sorrow. Holding you in gentle thought and prayer in this time of sorrow.
Love
Darlene

Joyce was a vibrant, active, intelligent woman and an excellent hostess who loved to entertain. I feel privileged to have been included in the many family/friends gatherings in her beautiful home. My fondest memory of Joyce is in her kitchen, she was dressed beautifully as always, also in stockings and heels, where she showed Adrienne and I how she could still kick up her heels just before her 90th birthday! I will always remember her warm smile and inclusive hospitality!
My deepest condolences to Adrienne and Don on the passing of your mother. However, your many funny and memorable times together will warm your hearts and put a smile on your face as you recall your rich and happy life with her.
Friends/family always - Wendy Bursey
