Obituary of James (Jim) William Gibson


December 5, 1936 - Gull Lake, Saskatchewan

November 4, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

 

We regretfully announce the passing of James (Jim) William Gibson of Calgary, AB on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at age 84 years, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim had surgery and then a brief battle with pneumonia and Parkinson’s and is finally at rest.

 

Jim loved the game of bridge and was always up for playing any kind of card game. He also LOVED the game of golf and was a member of the Inglewood Golf and Curling Club for the past 30+ years. He will be missed by all his friends from over the years. He was a longstanding active member of the church, involved in leadership at both Southminster United Church and Knox Presbyterian Church and more recently a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Jim was a Registered Industrial Accountant and Financial Planner. He taught many people how to spend money wisely and how to invest and plan for the future. Jim enjoyed his life and will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Rest In Peace, Papa.

 

Jim is survived by his devoted companion, Inez Walker, and his children, Keith Gibson (Skylar) and Lori Johnson (Don); and his three grandchildren whom he adored, Kurtis (Leah), Jessica (Cam), and Emily (Todd). He is also survived by his two sisters and their husbands, Faye Holtby (Ray), and Marilyn Mignault (Ron), all of Saskatchewan, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Joyce in 2015.

 

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 3:30 p.m.  Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no reception to follow.Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here. If friends do desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
