Obituary of Marian "Marek" Pieczara

Marian “Marek” Pieczara, beloved husband of Anna Pieczara, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the age of 74 years.

Marek was born in Katowice, Poland on December 8, 1946.  He went on to complete his Master’s in Mathematics at the Jagiellonian University, at which time he met the love of his life, Anna. They married in December 1969 and raised two children. In 1981, Marek decided to leave Poland with his family in search of a better life for them in Canada.   

Marek was an avid traveller. He loved long road trips where his favourite destination was Montana, as well as travelling to beach destinations and to Europe, to his homeland of Poland. He was deeply spiritual; his last big trip was a pilgrimage with his son to the miraculous Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Marek also loved to practice the lost art of watchmaking and was a hobby-mechanic who enjoyed fixing his cars.  

Marek always participated and gave back to his community. He made an impact on the Polish community in Timmins, Ontario where he started a Polish school, was instrumental establishing a Polish parish and worked many hours on the local Polish radio broadcast. Through his joyous attitude, great faith and kindness, he made a positive impact on many people he met during his earthly journey.   

He loved his family and his family loved him.  Marek leaves behind not only his loving wife, Anna, but also his loving children, Maria and Stan, along with their spouses, Danny and Edyta; as well as his wonderful grandchildren, Sophia, Nicholas and Madeleine. Marek is also survived by his three brothers, Maciej (Czesia) who reside in Burlington, Ontario, Piotr (Bozena) and Andrzej (Justyna) who reside in Krakow, Poland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. Marek was predeceased by his parents, Katarzyna and Franciszek. 

He'll always remain in our hearts as a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church (2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with a prayer service directly preceding the funeral mass and starting at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. In lieu of flowers, a mass can be booked for the repose of soul of Marek or a donation made to the charity of your choice.
