Obituary of Kurt Mathias Christensen

Kurt Christensen, beloved husband of Margit Christensen (nee Jensen) of Aldersyde, AB, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the age of 91 years.

Kurt was born in Aarhus, Denmark on November 3, 1930. He later immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1952. Kurt graduated from the University of Aarhus with a degree in Agriculture. He joined the Danish Royal Guard at the age of nineteen and served for two years in Copenhagen, Denmark. He remains an honorary member of the Danish Royal Guard and received a medal for his years of service to the Queen.

In 1954, Kurt married the love of his life Margit (Gitte) Jensen. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary, and the Danish Businessmen’s Association. He also volunteered every year with the Calgary Stampede and the Danish Canadian Club.

Kurt accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of the work he did during his time with Otis Elevators, where he was the Manager for Western Canada. He cherished the lifelong friendships he built through business. He was extremely proud of the life he built for himself in Canada and of his family. Kurt enjoyed being with his friends and was known for his welcoming and generous nature. He loved being in his garden and being with animals. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, his charisma and his kind heart.

Besides his loving wife, Kurt is survived by his daughter Kimberley Munro and his son-in-law David Munro in Calgary, AB, his son Chris Christensen in Vancouver, BC; three grandchildren, Kristina Plank of Calgary, AB, Evan Christensen and Graham Christensen of Vancouver, BC. Kurt is also survived by his twin sister Gerda Skov of Odder, Denmark, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Kurt was predeceased by his older brother Preben Christensen and sister-in-law Birte Christensen of Malaga, Spain and brother-in-law Eric Skov of Vejle, Denmark.
