Obituary of Robert (Bob) John Frederick

Robert Frederick of Calgary, AB passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Bob was born in Saskatoon, SK, on October 5, 1934. He graduated from Saint Mary's High School, then the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts, and later the University of British Columbia, with a Master of Social Work. He worked with AADAC, the Government of Alberta, and other organizations as a social worker.

Bob had a passion for art, philately, reading, drawing, music and dance, travel, and golf (including disc golf). He had a special homing beacon for retrieving lost golf balls. He was particularly proud of his enormous golf ball collection! Bob truly enjoyed making art; he was always creating and expressing his unique vision with pencils, markers, paints and mixed media. Bob enjoyed the many family camping trips he want on, including a long, hot road trip to Disneyland in 1977, as well as numerous travels in retirement to Mexico and Europe with his wife, Joan.

He will be most remembered for his appreciation for a good meal, unending curiosity and passion for life.

Bob is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Frederick and Mark Chapman, of Calgary AB; and Laura Frederick and Jeff Knowlton of Vancouver, BC; son Jaime Frederick, of Nelson, BC; and his three grandchildren, Ezra of Fort St. John, BC, and Fiona and Leo of Nelson, BC. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan of Ashcroft, BC, Chris and Carie, of Calgary, AB, and Tc'al (Greg); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his devoted and loving wife Joan (nee Rowbotham); parents Margaret and Lawrence; and his brother Greg Frederick.
