Obituary of Molly Alice Evans

November 9, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Molly Evans (nee West) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the age of 99 years.

Molly West was born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, England on April 28, 1922, to father William West and mother Elizabeth Emily West lovingly married in 1916. Molly was the youngest of five children, Irene May West, Alfred Thomas West, twins Hilda Rosa West and Elizabeth (Peggy) West. Molly attended high school and college taking shorthand and typing. She proudly joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Service, the WAAF’s during WWII, and was a morse code operator. Molly met and married Aubrey John (Jack) Evans after the war and in 1953, Molly and Jack welcomed their son John Beric Evans. Jack found a job and immigrated to Western Canada in 1957, Molly and Beric moved to St. Albert, AB, when Beric was 6 years old. 

Jack founded the Calgary Hornets Rugby Club in 1960, and Molly became a lifetime member. Molly enjoyed watching games and supporting the club at year-end banquets. Molly led a long, interesting, and productive life, she was particularly proud of working for the House of Light as an accountant office credit manager in downtown Calgary for twenty-five years. Molly had a passion for reading books and especially enjoyed spy novels. She enjoyed travelling around the world in her younger days, visiting family in England on a yearly basis. In her younger years, Molly loved to dance, and she loved music including Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, Perry Como, Yanni, and the Five Tenors. Molly spent Christmas Eve with her good friends Karen and Rod, and family. She enjoyed the singalongs while Rod played his guitar.

Molly is survived by her daughter-in-law Carolyn Evans, three grandchildren, Gareth (Sarah), Sarah (Matt), and Cody (Carly); and three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Bennett, and Hunter. Molly is also survived by her four nieces, Linda (Ron), Rita (Alan), Patricia (Alan), and Jennifer (Brian); and five nephews, Brian (Julie), Alan (Sally), Clive (Rita), Peter Ford (Karen), and Paul Morris (Babs). Molly was predeceased by her loving husband Aubrey (Jack), and her wonderful son Beric.

Molly has gone now to join those who have journeyed on before.
