Obituary of Louise Wong

February 5, 1967 - Hong Kong

November 24, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, Louise Yin Ping Wong (née Ng) passed away after her long-fought battle with cancer. Her passing was peaceful, as she was held by her beloved husband and surrounded with family and friends.

Louise was born in Hong Kong on February 5, 1967, to Ng Wing Kit and Shum Fung Ching. She grew up in Hong Kong with her two older brothers, Simon Ng and Philip Ng. As the youngest child, Louise was often pampered by her older brothers and she grew up keeping her childlike tendencies, such as her optimism and bringing joy wherever she went.

From an early age, Louise had a passion for the arts. In pursuit of this, she went to San Francisco as a young adult to study fashion, ballet, as well as the culinary arts. After her studies, she returned to Hong Kong where she began her modelling and acting career, where she eventually met her beloved husband, Steven Wong.

Steven and Louise married in the winter of 1993. Shortly after, they immigrated to Canada to start their family. Together, they had two children, one son and one daughter. Their daughter, Shelli, was born on July 5th of 1994 and their son, Warren, on June 6th of 1997. As first-generation Canadians, both Louise and Steven initially struggled to get their bearings. However, they were still dedicated to providing their family with the best life possible and worked tirelessly to ensure that.

Louise worked multiple jobs for her family, from providing food samples at Co-op to being a waitress at restaurants. Eventually, she became a caregiver and realized that her true calling was helping others in need. She further continued on this path to help others by going to school for her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate at Bow Valley College and graduating in 2010.

As a nurse, Louise worked in multiple settings, such as clinical care at Carewest and homecare for elders before specializing in foot care at Mosaic PCN. Oftentimes, Louise will go above and beyond in the care of her patients, such as driving them to get groceries and working despite her fight with cancer. Her dedication and selflessness to her work made her beloved by her clients and coworkers alike, and they became a second family to her.

As a mother, and an established nurse, Louise still had her passion for the arts, specifically in Japanese art and culture. In her spare time, Louise can be found assembling intricate miniature houses and anime dolls, usually taking hours to fully assemble, and gifted to her cherished friends afterwards. Her dream was always to visit Japan with her family. This dream was eventually fulfilled in 2018 where she was able to dress in traditional yukata, visit famous landmarks, and enjoy authentic Japanese food/culture.

Louise lived a fulfilling and accomplished life from working her dream job to visiting her dream city. Despite this, Louise would say that she loved and appreciated the people she met, the friends she made, and her loving family the most.

Louise was an individual who will be greatly missed by all of us. She will be always remembered for her unwavering love, her kindness, and her ability to bring joy and laughter wherever she goes.

Besides her husband, Louise is survived by her daughter Shelli Wong and her son Warren Wong; as well as her four adorable cats Mi Jai, Penny, Mi Lui, and Nightkin in Calgary, AB.
