Krystyna Bartczak

Obituary of Krystyna Bartczak

January 24, 1946 - Szamotuly, Poland
November 26, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

With great sorrow, we announce that Krystyna Bartczak (nee Spychalska) passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, after a brave battle against glioblastoma. She was one of the kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was extremely blessed to have her as the matriarch.

In 1969 she met the love of her life, Eugene, and the two have been inseparable from that point on. They were married in 1971 and together they went on to have two daughters. In 1982 they immigrated to Canada to escape communist Poland and to start a new life. They built a beautiful, strong, and close family together, nurtured a loving home, and accomplished many amazing things through hard work, their never-failing faith in Christ, and focusing on what is important in life: Love of Family. Our fondest memories include family outings to Kananaskis and fun gatherings on the weekends. With great joy, the family celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past September. Krystyna took much pride in her four beloved grandchildren; her greatest joy was being a “Babcia”. Krystyna played a fundamental role in helping to raise all her grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were blessed to be able to experience firsthand her endless love and generosity. She left an imprint on their hearts and souls that will last a lifetime. In addition, Krystyna loved gardening, playing bridge, baking (she even perfected the gluten free perogy), going to church, hiking, picnics, day trips to the mountains and hosting memorable dinners. Most importantly, Krystyna loved to laugh and maintained her wit throughout her illness. We will always cherish those beautiful memories. Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in Our Savior Jesus Christ. Krystyna died as she lived, with faith, surrounded by family, and love. We are so thankful for every single day we were able to spend with her.

Krystyna joins her parents, brother, and sister in heaven. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Eugene; her two daughters Joanna and Maggie (Mercer); son-in-law Ben; and her grandchildren Brian, Justin, Jake, and Myla; as well as many friends and family in Canada and Poland.

Thank you to Dr. Patel and the staff at Novo Care medical clinic; home care nurses Kristen and Fiona; and especially the palliative home care team (Nishma, Nicole, and Jasper). Thank you to all our family and friends for your endless support and kindness during these very difficult months.
