Audrey Schultz (nee Spencer)

Obituary of Audrey Schultz (nee Spencer)

May 2, 1930 - Calgary, Alberta
November 27, 2021 - Cochrane, Alberta

On Saturday, November 27, 2021, Audrey Joyce Schultz passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and family.

Audrey was the first of three children born to Alan and Olive Spencer in Calgary, AB. She attended Prairie Bible Institute in 1951, and while attending Prairie she met David Schultz, the love of her life. While dating they discovered that both had a passion for missions, and ironically they had both applied to the same mission to serve in the same country. On November 3, 1956, Audrey married Dave. In 1960 Dave and Audrey travelled with their two daughters on an ocean liner to West Africa to do their lives’ work as missionaries.

For 24 years Audrey worked alongside Dave, using her bookkeeping and teaching skills, and working with women and children of the Maradi Leprosarium, all while raising a family of five children. In 1984 they returned to Calgary where they were seconded to work with International Students Ministries of Canada. Audrey went wholeheartedly into teaching foreign students ESL (English as a Second Language). Together Dave and Audrey were part of this ministry for the next fourteen years.

Audrey enjoyed her twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as hiking in the mountains, and photography. She also had a love of animals.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 65 years, Dave; her children, Susan (Doug), Kathie (Bill), Tim (Esther), Steve (Kathy), Sylvia (Paul); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Olive and Alen Spencer, and her brothers, Keith (Merla) Spencer, and Vern (Dorothy).

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
