Obituary of Giovanna Maria Ledda

Giovanna Maria Ledda (nee Fiori), beloved mother, nonna, bisnonna, zia, sister, and friend passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Giovanna was born in Ploaghe, Sassari, Sardegna, Italy, on May 6, 1933. She married Giovanni Maria Ledda in 1954 and immigrated to Canada in 1955. In Calgary, she raised her four children and had a fulfilling career as a seamstress.  Her passion throughout life was her husband and family.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking for all. No-one left her home hungry. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, telling stories and going to the park with all. Giovanna always greeted you with a smile and made everything better with warm hugs, kind thoughtful advice, and witty humor.  She was the strength behind our achievements.

Giovanna had a small body

but a large heart

—a heart so large

that everybody’s joys found welcome in it.

Giovanna is survived by her children, Nina (Joe) Greco, Angelo (Wanda) Ledda, Rina (Joseph) Romano, Pietro (Lisa) Ledda; grandchildren, Pasquale (Raegan), Joanna (Lucas), Catrina (Perri), Kristen, Kiana, Mattea, Cesare (Christina), Giovanna (Graham), and Giovanni (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Francesca, Giovanni, Angelina, Harlow, Berlin, Adalena, Elio, Elijah, Maria, and Eva. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Maria Fiori and Graziella Fiori; as well as numerous nieces, and nephews in Canada, Italy, and France.   Giovanna was predeceased by her husband Giovanni Maria Ledda; parents, Gavino and Mariangela (nee Pintus) Fiori; her brothers, Bachisio and Giovanni Fiori.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Community Church (800 85th Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Due to COVID restrictions, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Family and friends not attending are invited to join Giovanna's service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
