“Very Happy Smart and Lucky Free Person”
-    Lorenzo’s Facebook Biography

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Lorenzo Giammarino, beloved son of Concetta and Pietro, and brother to Gino, Ron and Rick. Lorenzo passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the age of 68 years. He was born in Calgary, AB on December 2nd, 1952.

Lorenzo, known to many as “Larry”, was a very special person who approached the world with love and understanding. He was a scholar, a lover of the arts and music, and he lived a life of true authenticity. Larry was the type of person who would give his last dollar to help you, and was a friend to any person he encountered. He had a great sense of humor which he shared generously with his friends and relatives. He lived bravely with mental illness in a time of great stigma, and was a role model to his many nieces and nephews on how to be yourself and roll with the punches.

Lorenzo was a prolific artist, and worked in many mediums over the years - from oil painting, to drawing, photography, and video art. He shared his love for art and encouraged those around him to express their own unique creativity.

He was also a lifelong learner with a gifted intellect. As a young man, Lorenzo graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He returned to the University of Calgary in his 50’s to complete two more BA’s in History and Philosophy. He was a deep thinker, and would share his thoughts in lively conversation with friends and relatives.

Lorenzo is survived by his mother Concetta, his three beloved brothers, his many nieces, nephews, and grand nephews, as well as his friends at Carroll Place in NW Calgary where he lived for many years. Lorenzo was predeceased by his father, Pietro Giammarino.

Larry loved his people deeply. He was larger than life, a free-spirited child of the 60’s, and we have all been blessed to know him. We will miss him so dearly, and we will continue to live the gift of his lessons in our daily lives. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Mental Health Association and The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
