Obituary of Loretta Emelia Zorniak

October 5, 1939 – Macklin, Saskatchewan

November 30, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Grandma, Sister, Auntie and friend, Loretta. Loretta Emilia Zorniak, beloved wife of the late Panteleymon (Ben) Zorniak, of Cochrane, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the age of 82 years.

Loretta was born in Maclin, Saskatchewan on October 5, 1939. She moved to Camrose, Alberta in 1950 where she attended school. Upon completing her education, Loretta then moved to Edmonton to work for the Government of Alberta. Once in Edmonton she met and married Ben on July 12, 1958 and started a family.

Loretta accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her family. She was a stay-at-home mom until her and Ben opened a successful welding machine shop business, where she managed the office. After they retired in 1985, they travelled extensively throughout the US, Mexico, Spain, Australia, and Central America.

She enjoyed using her passions to give back to the community. As an avid knitter, Loretta made hats for preemie babies and would donate them. She would also bake cookies and bring them in to the Tom Baker Cancer Center.

She was a sociable person and a keen card player. She ensured that everyone knew the rules and will be remembered for her love of games, her great sense of humor, and having fun.

Loretta is survived by her daughter Kathy (Russ) Barss, son Michael Zorniak, and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Keith, Jeffrey, Ellen, and Rowan. She is also survived by numerous relatives and friends in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and the United States. Loretta was predeceased by her husband Ben in 2010, and her son David 2019.
