Obituary of Kenneth (Ken) Edward Windsor

March 3, 1946 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

December 4, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

In loving memory of Kenneth Edward Windsor; A son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.

Ken was born in Winnipeg, MB on March 3, 1946, into what later became a family of seven. He was a playful child who had many lifelong friendships.  Even as a young man, Ken had a keen interest in sport cars, and loved driving in his convertible. He had a passion for cars his entire life. In his early twenties, Ken was a civilian marksman instructor with the PPCLI. Moving from Manitoba to Alberta in 1979, Ken raised his family and called Calgary home for the rest of his life.  He loved living close to the mountains and being able to ride his bike on the trails of Fish Creek Park. For many years Ken held a membership at the Calgary Zoo, a place he enjoyed spending countless hours with his grandchildren. Ken’s love of animals was a huge part of his life.  In his backyard you would find many bird feeders. Ken was a believer that hummingbirds were angels sent from above.  As a teenager, Ken had a love for winged animals. He nursed an injured hawk (Jake) back to health before being releasing back into the wild.  He cherished beautiful landscapes and enjoyed having a colourful flower garden. Anyone who met Ken would remember his contagious laugh, his sense of humour and his love of cars and action movies. Working at Sony of Canada for most of his life, Ken indulged in high end audio and video equipment.  He finished his career at TNT Honda where he looked after customers and their cars, something he loved to do.

Ken loved all kinds of music.  In his retirement years, he treasured his membership with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Listening to the orchestra, playing Adagio for Strings, and hearing the Stradivarius Violin was his fondest and most touching musical memory.  He loved retirement life, going out for a London Fog, visiting with his family, and dining out were some of his many favourite activities. Ken enjoyed travelling.  His most memorable trips included Japan, Costa Rica, and his many adventures to England.

Ken passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, with his family by his side. We will forever love and miss you.

Ken is survived by his three children, Darren Windsor, Shelley Hastie (Matthew) and Candace Tallack (Mark); six grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Dylan, Jenna, Tristan, and Ainsley.  He also leaves behind his brothers, Dave, Dale, and Craig (Ava); sister Kim (Fred); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Ken was predeceased by his parents Ken Sr. and Della Windsor (Willey).

A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held in the summer of 2022, when the flowers are in bloom and the birds are visiting. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
