Condolences
Dear Dr. Alvarez, I just recently heard of Dr. Spence’s passing. I am so so sorry for your loss. I know how close you were and what a wonderful team you were. My sincere condolences. Kelly (your MOA at PLC)
Dear Nanette, Sean, Christopher and Emma. Our sincere condolences for the loss of your loving father and husband. Frank was a wonderful person. I had the honour of meeting Frank through our little pottery painting business my husband and I owned years ago. You would come in and paint on special occasions like Mother's Day and birthdays. Nanette would say, "Frank (who was a cardiac physician) has a steady hand....that's why he paints in the lines better than I do." I remember the last Mother's Day when you all came in - it was 2015 - and Frank spoke in lengths with JD my husband about the kilns we used. He was very interested in the whole firing/glazing process. I felt that was a very kind and endearing gesture to make.
My heart is heavy for you all. But, know that he is always with you, every day.
My deepest sympathy to Dr. Alvarez and family. When I think of Dr. Spence I think of the dancing and singing toys my mom Sharron would give their kids for Christmas. Dr. Spence will be greatly missed.
Sincere condolences to the family! I was honored to work with Dr Spence! Great cardiologist and person, very professional, kind, organized and always joking, many times he brightened our days at work!
You are missed, Frank Spence!
Liliana
Dear Nanette, Sean, Christopher and Emma, we were so saddened to hear of Frank's passing. He was truly a remarkable man and we have many fond memories of visiting with him whether in the neighbourhood, the club or at church on Sunday. His love as proud father and devoted husband shone through his eyes and his smile. But we remember also his compassion as a professional when he helped us through Dad's final days. He was a great friend to our family and we will always remember his kindness, his humour and his lovely disposition. Sending prayers for a good journey for Frank and to help heal your broken hearts. Lots of love, Karen and Barbara Storwick
Sincerest condolences to all of Frank's family. Frank was an amazing physician and a great character. I have only fond memories and smiles when I think of our time working together. Dear Nanette and Family;
I am so very very sorry to hear of the Frank's passing. I last saw him at our Medical School reunion in 2017. We reminisced on our good times and the fun we had during those years. He had not changed and of course continued to make me laugh with his "one of a kind" sense of humour! I have had the pleasure of working with some of the residents Frank had trained and they have all spoken very highly of him not only as a teacher, mentor, skilled and compassionate cardiologist but also of the soft spoken, kind, thoughtful and great sense humour friend they had the opportunity to know.
Words, however kind, can’t mend your heartache, but those who care and share your loss can offer comfort and peace of mind. I hope that you will find strength in the love of family and friends at this time.
You will never forget someone who gave you so much to remember and these memories will fill your mind and your heart so he will always be with you.
Please accept my sincere condolences and heart felt sympathy to all of you and your families with the passing of Frank.

Dear Nanette and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Frank's passing.
I have many fond memories of working with Frank at Foothills cath lab and CCU during cardiology residency. I always looked forward to working with him. Everyone appreciated his awesome humor. I will always remember his hilariously dry and witty jokes.
Frank was a skilled interventionalist and an excellent, practical, and thoughtful teacher. He saved many lives, and generously passed on his expertise to the next generation of cardiologists.
Frank will be greatly missed by his patients, and by the Alberta cardiology community.
Sincerely
Steve Tilley

So sorry to hear about Franks passing. I fondly remember him as a Fellow in my pre RN days in the "Angioplasty Suite". I recall his dry and practical sense of humour but also his expert guidance and mentorship as I started my NP role. Nanette and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you remember and grieve Frank.
Nanette, Sean (and family), Christopher and Emma,
Frank was a highly respected and well liked colleague who will be greatly missed. He was a true gentleman. It always brightened our day, looking back and seeing him with one of you at the football games. Thinking of you.
Sid, Cheryl, Rebecca, Benny and Eliana
Frank was a longtime colleague and friend of my deceased husband, Dr. John C. Morgan, as Co-founder, of Total Cardiology, and of myself, as past Manager of ICU, and of Cardiovascular Services, at the Holy Cross Hospital.
Frank, to my memory, was the essence of a gentle, wise, and compassionate caregiver to many cardiovascular patients, over a long career. He will be missed by many, and our heartfelt condolences go out to Nanette, and to all of his loving family, who bid him goodbye, on this, his final journey.
Warmest Regards,
Maureen Morgan and the Morgan Family
I had the good fortune to get to know Dr Spence as part of the Rockyview cardiology team. My deepest condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. May God bless. Rest In Peace Dr Spence.
We are so saddened to hear of Frank’s passing and will remember him always as a dedicated and skilled colleague and a kind and generous man with a delightful sense of humour. Our sincere condolences to you Nanette and all of your family.
Karen Valentine and Ted Braun
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Frank for several years in the late 90’s and again prior to his retirement. Amongst the many anecdotes it was clear how much he adored his family, and how proud he was of all of you (especially Nanette - he would always tell the guys to make sure and marry a woman smarter than them). He will definitely be so missed by anyone who had the pleasure to know him - my sincere condolences - ♥️♥️
Frank has moved on. Prematurely in my opinion, but we have little to no control on deciding when to move on.
I am not in Calgary and will not be able to express to Frank's family my most sincere thanks, and appreciation to the many contributions Frank made to the medical profession as an invaluable "trench doctor", as a most compassionate human being, and as a learned colleague.
Thank you very much for all you did Frank. I will miss you.
Tomás Godínez-Luna
Our condolences and deepest sympathies to Nanette, Sean, Chris, and Emma. Frank was generous and kind and will be missed.

Dr. Spence was an incredibly kind and respected man who created a beautiful family with his strong, intelligent, and truly remarkable wife, Nanette. He will be missed but never forgotten. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
The first day I met Frank was in CICU at The Foothills Hospital Medical Centre. He strolled in impressively dressed in casual attire with a stethoscope around his neck. I thought he was a physiotherapist. He introduced himself as our new Cardiology Fellow. From that day forward he inspired us with his excellent clinical skills and great wit. He always responded to our nursing “6 th sense “ and trusted us. He will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you Nanette, and your family at this difficult time.

Although we all knew this day was at hand it is so tough, seeing Frank’s face, his half smile, seeing the wit in his eye… I’ll never forget that right handed sideways tilt with the eye roll at the table in the cath lab… I remember asking Frank if his kids thought he was funny? Because he WAS so funny!! Frank didn’t think his kids thought so, but of course they must have? I’m only one small person that had the privilege of meeting this man so can’t imagine the enormity of his presence and influence…rest in peace, you fought the hard fight and taught the hard lessons to us remaining people… never forgotten, always remembered and loved❤️❤️
I really appreciated Frank's teaching, quick wit and ready anecdote of something that his family had experienced recently, or was tangentially (occasionally very tangentially) related to the subject at hand. It always brought a moment of levity to the moment and reminded me of the many other dimensions of life outside of medicine. While he was a gifted clinician and teacher, it was clear that his family was his great source of pride and joy. My condolences to his family on their loss.

My sincerest condolences to the family and everyone who shared a joke or a smile with Dr. Spence. It's been a long time since I worked on one of the Hospital Units, but for a couple of years I worked as a Unit Clerk on Unit 81 at the FMC; Dr. Spence was one of the doctors that I genuinely looked forward to working with. He was always very kind to me, and quite the joker - always quick to share a sarcastic or ridiculous joke with me at the desk. I'm not sure if everyone got to see the silly side of Dr. Spence, but I was one of the lucky ones who did.
Thank you, Dr. Spence, for keeping me sane on those busy days on the unit. It was greatly appreciated. You will be missed.
