Ambrogio Corea

Obituary of Ambrogio Corea

November 29, 1936 – Albi Catanzaro, Italy

December 5. 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Ambrogio Corea, beloved husband of Caterina Corea (nee Giancotti), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the age of 85 years.

Ambrogio was born in Albi Catanzaro, Italy, on November 29, 1936. On April 30, 1961, Ambrogio married his wife of nearly sixty-one years, Caterina. Following the immigration of his siblings, Ambrogio immigrated to Calgary, AB, in 1967 with his wife and two children, Salvatore and Teresa. Shortly after arriving in Canada, and the birth of his youngest daughter Anna, he started a career as a carpenter with his brother Domenico. Following his brother's death, Ambrogio founded Treanna Woodcraft. He was a skilled carpenter, and it brought him joy making custom furniture for his family.

Ambrogio spent his later years with his grandchildren, Grace and Cole, and his many nieces and nephews. It brought him tremendous joy to be a Nonno and Zio to so many children, whom he loved dearly. His heart was full when he was surrounded by his family; he and his wife enjoyed hosting Sunday dinners, which always included his famous barbecued steak and prawns.

Ambrogio loved classic cars, while driving his t-bird and corvette he would listen to music from Tom Jones, Pavarotti, and Bocelli. He also loved spending time outside tending to his tomato house and huge vegetable garden. Ambrogio spent countless hours playing cards with his best friend, Pat Arrotta. The friendship they had was truly special and meant an enormous amount to them both. The two would meet at Pat’s house at the same time, almost everyday, to share stories over espresso and enjoy each other's company.

He also enjoyed travelling and spending time with Caterina, his children, and grandchildren in places like Phoenix, Hawaii, California, Mexico, and Kelowna.

Our hearts are heavy with sadness, although it gives us a great deal of comfort to know Ambrogio is in God’s hands now. We are beyond thankful for the time we had with him, and the impact he had on so many. He will always be remembered. He will forever be in our hearts and is now our Guardian Angel.

Besides his loving wife, Ambrogio is survived by his three children, Salvatore Corea (Marlene), Teresa Crecy (Jon), Anna Simons; and his two grandchildren Grace and Cole Simons. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Teresa and Salvatore Corea, his sister and brother in-law Giovanna and Antonio DeMare, and brother Domenico Corea (Gradita).

Private Funeral Services will be held for his family.  If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Ambrogio’s name to The Heart and Stroke Foundation at https://www.heartandstroke.ca/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give .
