Obituary of Colleayn Olive Mastin

January 20, 1934 – High River, Alberta

December 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Colleayn Olive Mastin (nee Stout), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the age of 87 years.

Colleayn was born and raised in High River, AB. She spent much of her adult life alternating between life in Calgary, AB, where she was an accomplished Commercial Realtor, and Kamloops, BC, where she was a successful businesswoman, having owned and operated several Tim Horton’s throughout British Columbia. She was very social, an eclectic art collector, enjoyed travelling, and loved to dance. Her quick wit and friendly demeanor left a little sparkle with everyone she met. Growing up it seemed everyone knew Colleayn; stories were relayed with smiles and a little giggle of the memories she left behind everywhere she went. She will be sadly missed by her family, her many friends, and acquaintances.

Colleayn spent many years volunteering for the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, and especially loved the parade. She loved the energy of Calgary and was a huge promoter of everything red and white. She was an extremely proud and active participant in the first ever Alberta Summer Games in 1974. Her creative spirit made her a welcome addition to various fundraising events for charity, including the largest herd of ceramic cows and the annual Kamloops duck races. Colleayn accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of being a best-selling author of a Canadian Nature Series of children’s books.

Colleayn is survived by her two sons, John, and Blair Mastin; three daughters, Kelly Rowbotham, Michelle Locken, and Heather-Faye Mastin; fourteen grandchildren, Aaron Mastin, Mitchell Giesbrecht, January Mckee, Lindsay Martinson, Jackson Meston, Brenden Meston, Adam Locken, Tiffany Locken, Blair Locken, Robert Gunson, Brock Gunson, Bradley Gunson, Codi Kingdon, Ashley Morrison; and 26 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Mitchel, North, Brogan, Brox, Tavish, Navy, Mishayla, Parker, Tuesday, Finnley, Crew, Brynn, Griffin, Scout, Phoebe, Tripp, Mila, Eddie, Tor, Cadele, Chason, Noah, Avery, Ashley, Codi. Colleayn is also survived by her two brothers, Raymond Stout, Bud Stout; her sister Diane Cameron, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Colleayn’s family would like to acknowledge their gratitude to her very close friend, Ed Rehman, who’s enormous heart and kindness bestowed upon Colleayn in her final years will never be matched or forgotten.

Colleayn was predeceased by her brother Jack Stout, two sisters, Shirley Zachow, and Arllene Stringer; her husband John Herbert Mastin, and her partner of twenty-five years, Dan Holden.
