April 23, 1945 – Corner Brook, Newfoundland
December 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Sandra Jean Beaton, passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2021, at the age of 76 years. In her final days, she was surrounded by her steadfast and loving family.

Born in Curling, near Corner Brook, NF, on April 23,1945, she was the daughter of the late Rendell and Jessie Noseworthy (nee Byrne).

Sandra is survived by her devoted life-long partner of 42 years, Raymond Mercer of Calgary, AB (Formerly of Corner Brook, NF); son, Craig Beaton, of Grande Cache, AB; daughter, Jodi Dixon, of Calgary, AB; step-daughters Sherry and Shelly Mercer, of Riverview, NB and Revelstoke, BC; cherished Nana to Kalie and  Alyshia Dixon of Calgary, AB; and Ashley Bulman of Riverview, NB; sisters, Valda Allen of Corner Brook, NF; Shirley Manuel, of Collingwood, ON; brother Fred Noseworthy of Corner Brook, NF; sisters-in-law, Eileen Mercer of Calgary, AB, Joan Swift of Calgary, AB, Alice Mercer of Nanaimo, BC, and Margaret Gooseney of Medstead, SK; and many nieces and nephews who so dearly loved their “Aunt Sandra”.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Joe Beaton, in 1974; beloved sons Paul, in 2017, and John, in 2019; sisters, Carol, Ruby, Una, Rhoda and Joan; and brothers, David and Don.

Sandra worked in various occupations during her lifetime and retired from a long held career at Calgary Federated Co-op in 2003. Notably, Sandra had an entrepreneurial spirit and made opportunities to earn through service to others utilizing her creative talents, or “elbow grease”.

Family, friends and acquaintances of Sandra (Sandy) knew her as  an engaging woman with a rich and sometimes devilish sense of humour, warm smile, infectious giggle, quick wit and a bit of “sauciness”. As well, she demonstrated a quiet strength and resolve, remaining positive and fearless throughout her life; facing adversities with strength and conviction, yet ever grateful for every goodness or blessing.

Sandra was exceptionally creative and pursued a passion for crafting, knitting and sewing. Especially skilled at quilting, and paper card-making; it gave her immense pleasure to give her art and crafts to those she loved.

Sandra enjoyed camping and travelling and took joy in the simple pleasures afforded by a flickering campfire, afloat on lake, river or sea, and the views offered on many RV trips near and far.

A loving and devoted partner, mother, grandmother and sister, she had a deep affection for her family, sharing in their lives, supporting their pursuits and times of need, and taking pride in their accomplishments. Whenever called upon, "Nana" would ask only what she could do to help, no matter the circumstances, and gladly do what she could.

Sandra enriched the lives of many, and is fondly remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
