Obituary of Lawrence John Plante

December 7, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Lawrence John Plante, beloved husband of Anne Plante (nee Taggart), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the age of 91 years.

 

Lawrence was born in the town of Bellevue, Alberta on August 16, 1930 to John and Lillian Plante.

 

Lawrence and Anne were married August 2, 1952 in the town of Pincher Creek, Alberta and resided in Bellevue, Alberta. They moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1954 after working in the underground mine as a mine electrician. Once in Calgary he worked as an apprentice electrician. After becoming a master electrician Lawrence and Anne opened up their own electrical contracting business. They continued working at their own business until they retired.

 

Lawrence loved to hunt with his brother-in-law, Hugh Quintilio. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. He enjoyed being a hobby farmer, on both of their acreages in Silver Springs and Symons Valley, raising cows, horses and hay crops.

 

Lawrence enjoyed reading history books pertaining to the Crowsnest Pass Area. Lawrence was a stay at home man, and anyone who knew him knows that he enjoyed auctions.

 

He will be most remembered for his witty sayings and his great sense of humour.

 

Besides his loving wife Anne, Lawrence is survived by his son John Plante (Irene), his daughters, Laurel Blacklock (Dave) and Jan Johnson (Brian); his grandchildren, Jeff Blacklock, Brian Blacklock, Alyse Plante, Lee Johnson, Michael  Diep and Randy Diep; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy and Jason Blacklock,  Remi Blacklock, Daxten Plante, Vhylix Inthasane and one great-grandson Blacklock due any day now.  Lawrence is also survived by his sister Elizabeth “Betty” Quintilio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Plante`s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
