Obituary of George 'Wayne' Brown

April 21, 1939 – Ottawa, Ontario

December 9, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Wayne Brown beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Marr) of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Foothills hospital on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the age of 82 years.

Wayne was born in Ottawa, ON on April 21, 1939. He graduated from Algonquin College with a degree in Electronics Technology. He worked for Hydro Quebec for 36 years as a Plant Controller where he formed many lifelong friendships.

Wayne married the love of his life Phyllis Marr in 1963. Together, they lived in Chelsea, QC and Cantley, QC for many years, until moving to Calgary, AB to be closer to their children in 1994.

Wayne loved to play cards and was an accomplished bridge player.  He took great pride in teaching his grand children how to play bridge “properly” as he would say. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, however; baseball was his passion.  He was an avid Montreal Expo fan early on but grew to love the Toronto Blue Jays and would never miss one of their games. He loved following the stock market and playing computer games. While he had a quiet demeanour, he was always willing to share his insights and was intuitive, witty, loving and caring.

Besides his loving wife of almost 59 years, Wayne will be deeply missed by his son, Joseph Brown (Nancy Berard-Brown) of Calgary, AB, and his daughter Susan Pilon (Noel) of Kelowna, BC; and his three grand children, Ethan, Alexander (Emily Lennon) and Megan (Jordan Szott) all of Calgary, AB.

Wayne is also survived by sister Ida Fay Dartnell of Russell, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Robert Warren Brown and Ida Mary Brown, and his sister Sylvia Clarke (Keith).

Wayne will be remembered for being an amazing husband, father, friend and grandpa!
