Obituary of Jean Wolchick

March 8, 1929 - Old Perlican, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland

December 14, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Jean Wolchick beloved mother of Shirley, Wendy, Vicki and Randy of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the age of 92 years.

 

Jean was born Jean March in Trinity Bay, NL, on March 8, 1929. She moved from Newfoundland to Toronto in 1954, then on to North Bay, Thunder Bay, and arrived In Calgary, AB in 1961. Jean married Ralph Bursey in 1945 until 1953 and together they had two daughters, Shirley and Wendy. Jean later married Victor Wolchick in 1957, who brought two sons into the family, Brian and Garry. Jean and Victor then had two children of their own, Vicki and Randy. Jean enjoyed her 10-pin bowling and going to bingo and had the most fun vacationing in Las Vegas. Her favourite saying was “How d’you like it?” She will be most remembered for her fantastic baking skills of delicious Christmas cakes and Christmas puddings, jam-jam cookies, nanaimo bars, rum balls, lemon squares, and especially German chocolate birthday cakes and fruit flans. We can still taste and smell them.

 

Jean is especially proud of her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley (Bob) Maruca and Wendy Bursey, both of Calgary; her son Randy Wolchick of Calgary; son-in-law Walter Fritz of Calgary; step-daughter-in-law Kathy Wolchick of Fort Bragg, California. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Tracey, Gerry, Shanna, Charlaine, Ken, Debbie, Ron, Cindy, Michelle, Kari, Wesley, Lee, Jennifer and Dominic; and fifteen great-grandchildren Tyler, Shayla, Jesse, Jodie, Melissa, Megan, Logan, Holly, Dylon, Nicole, Mitchell, Madison, Dillon, Emily and Zoey. She is also survived by her brother Rene (Joan) March of Georgetown, ON, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jean is predeceased by her two previous husbands, Ralph Bursey and Victor Wolchick; her precious youngest daughter Vicki-Jean Fritz; parents Levi John and Ethel March; her four brothers Eric, Ralph, Lloyd and Cyril; and her sister Vera.

 

 

A Funeral Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway, closed to family and close friends, (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Reception to follow back at the Funeral Home in the Hospitality Centre. Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age.
