Obituary of Cliff Goebel

December 16, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Clifford Louie Goebel of Calgary AB, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the age of 76 years.

Cliff was born in Melville, SK, on January 31, 1945, eldest son of  the late Pearl and Jack Goebel. Cliff joined the Canadian Armed Forces, Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment, in 1965. He served until 1978 when he was honourably discharged with the rank of Master Corporal.  He served in Canada, continental Europe and Cyprus. Cliff married Riky in 1967 in Rocky Mountain House, AB. After leaving the army, he worked in construction, building caretaking, woodworking, and driving, first Handibus, then school bus, and eventually highway motor coach. In his retirement, Cliff enjoyed attending sports events with his children, golfing and fishing.  He also enjoyed his time volunteering at the Mission Thrift Store.

He is survived by his wife Hendrika (Riky) Goebel (nee Stolte), daughter Angelina; five sons, Chad (Brandi), Mark (Tiffany), Shawn, Jasen, and chosen son Dan; four grandchildren, Breanna, Liam, Cole, Anja, and great-grandson, Westly.  He is also survived by his sister Shirley (Mervin) Litzenberger, brother Clarence (Sheila) Goebel, one niece and four nephews, all of Saskatchewan.

He was buried in a private graveside service on December 22, 2021 with the Legion providing an honour guard. 

A public Memorial Service will be held on January 28, 2022 at 1 PM, at River Park Church, 3818-14A St. SW, Calgary, AB. Zoom will be available for those who are unable to attend in person. Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age.
