Obituary of Joseph Matusko

August 14, 1924 – Candiac, Saskatchewan

December 17, 2021 - Rockyview County, Alberta

 

We are sad to announce that Joseph Matusko, beloved husband of Anne Matusko (Maranduk) of Irricana, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the age of 97, on December 17, 2021.

 

Joe was born in Candiac, Saskatchewan on August 14, 1924.  Joe was raised in that area, and on August 31, 1943 at 19 years of age, he was enlisted in the Air Force as a mechanic, where he served in the WW11 Canada and overseas. Joe was discharged on August 26, 1946, with a farm he aquired from the Veteran's, which he worked in the Glenavon area. In 1948 he moved to Broadview when his parent's moved there, and worked as a mechanic.  He later moved to Regina where he met Anne, the love of his life, and they were married October 20, 1956.

 

Joe went to school in Edmonton in 1970 where he received his Certificate of Proficiency as a motor mechanic in the Government of Alberta Dept. of Labour.  In 1971 Joe moved his family to Calgary, where he worked as a mechanic at Big 4 Motors for many years before joining the City of Calgary as a heavy duty mechanic until he retired September 29, 1990.

 

Joe was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he and Anne danced every weekend with friends and family. 

 

Joe was most remembed for his smooth dancing, card playing, his kindness and generosity.  His favourite saying was "Annie!"  "Fish Taco's!"  "Dupe!" and "Why did we only find this place now!!?"  He was 75 years young, and his first trip to La Paz, Mexico!

Joe loved to travel:  Florida, Kelowna, Las Vegas, Mexico and many other places.   He loved to camp and just relax or play cards with family and friends.  He also loved to play the accordian instrument, and polka music!

 

Joe was predeceased by his son-in-law Ron Dupont, his parent's Anthony and Mary Matusko, 1 brother, and all of his 4 sister's.

 

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, 1 daughter Joanne (Ron) Dupont, and 2 son's; Darry and his partner Tracy Caldwell, and Wayne and his partner Colleen Kratchmer.  Joe is also survived by 1 brother, John (Gloria) Matusko of Regina, Sask., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his 4 beloved Grandkids; Dallas (Tanya) Dupont, Jeffrey (Holly) Dupont, Brent(Ashlee) Matusko and Sara Hayden Matusko, and 7 Great Grandkids; Kaylee, Rachel, Roy, Blakely, Karlee, Bennet and Archer.

 

Celebration of Life will be held as a casual Outdoor event, after the church service, on the acreage in Rocky View County, Alberta......we will Celebrate both Joe and his son-in-law Ron.
