Dar Bohmer

Obituary of Dar Bohmer

BOHMER, Darnell James

July 28, 1978 – Trail, British Columbia

December 16, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with sorrow and immense loss, I am sharing my feelings for Darnell, my third Son born to Clyde Bohmer and myself. Darnell was born in Trail, BC on July 28, 1978, during a heat wave.

Darnell did not arrive on a whim; it took the doctors some convincing with forceps but was he ever one shining star when he finally arrived. Just a little beauty, hopefully without sounding like too much of a bragging Mom. His Dad was pleased with Dar as well.

Dar was a great kid, never caused too much trouble except for when he was turned down for a slurpy, ooh la la, 'no' wasn't in his vocabulary when it was about a slurpy. Dar was a centre piece for our family, having two elder brothers and parents to dote on him.

He graduated from James Fowler High School at seventeen years old and entered Mount Royal University on a transfer program. He worked a couple of summers as a summer student for Talisman Energy. His first summer was in geology and did he ever attract some attention from the ladies.  I know, I was there working in the Land Department. The next summer he was sent to Lake Erie and worked on a frac vessel. Upon Dar's early return, I'm so sorry to share with you Dar was diagnosed with a mental illness which ultimately ended his future in engineering. Nevertheless, I can honestly say that Dar kept a positive attitude despite this huge set back.

In my opinion and here I go bragging, Dar's largest attribute was his unconditional love for his family and friends. Darnell would cut his tongue out before he would judge his fellow man or lady. He was considered and sometimes referred to as our 'gentle giant'.

Prayer at Gravesite

Lord Jesus Christ, by your own three days in the tomb, you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you and so made the grave a sign of hope that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies. Grant that our brother Darnell may sleep here in peace until you awaken him to glory, for you are the resurrection and the life. Then he will see you face to face and in your light will see light and know the splendor of God, for you live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
