Obituary of Edward (Ted) Fisher

April 22, 1924 – Calgary, Alberta
December 17, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

On Friday, December 17, 2021, Edward (Ted) Fisher passed away peacefully at 97 years old.

Ted was a true Calgary native, born on April 22, 1924 in Victoria Park. After the death of his mother, Adeline, in 1929 he was raised by the incredible people of the Woods Home located in Bowness. Ted graduated from Western Canada High School and served in the Canadian Army during WWII for four years. While deployed in Panama as a chemical technician Ted realized his love for this field, so upon being discharged he enrolled in the University of Alberta earning a BSc in Chemical Engineering in 1951.

Ted married his first wife and love, Neva, in 1955. While raising three amazing children, Tom (from Neva’s first marriage), John, and Margaret, the family moved ten times in twelve years. Throughout his illustrious career in the oil industry Ted enjoyed many challenging assignments with Shell and BP including offshore drilling which took him to England, Newfoundland and Brazil.

Ted retired in 1986 and shortly after, Neva, his wife of 32 years, lost her battle with cancer. A few years later Ted reunited with an old friend, Gerry Levesque, whom he knew from the 1950s. They fell in love and married in 1992. Ted often said that his life had been blessed with two happy marriages. During his retirement he enjoyed the company of his three children, his four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was also able to spend much of his time with Gerry’s eight children, fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren whom he loved as his own.

Ted was an avid downhill skier and golfer, both of which he was able to enjoy into his 80s. Family was so important to him. He enjoyed nothing more than visiting with one of the kids or grandkids, whether it was over the phone, a weekend-night dinner or any special occasion. He was kind and honest; a true gentle man who enjoyed a good scotch and was such a good sport with his extended family.

Ted was predeceased by his two brothers, George and Don, and his first wife, Neva.
