Dear Doug , many years have past since we have been a couple or have even seen each other , but I do have some wonderful memories of our early life together . We had two beautiful children together and 2 grandchildren Sadie and Gianna both of your grandkids you never got to meet . Although we lost touch with them over time ,you will live on in them and your memory will live on
Rest In Peace
Dear Doug,
Growing up in Calgary, our families spent time together and I will always treasure those memories, especially your funny sense of humor. We knew our cousin Doug was Indigenous boy, born in Saskatchewan and adopted by our Aunt Lina & Uncle Leo Lepore. Our families accepted this young boy, he was one of us!
Doug was popular among his peers, played baseball and hockey, went on to complete high school. He would marry his high school sweetheart and have 2 children, Brett & Nicole Lepore.
As adults we all went our separate ways and we lost touch. It would be many years later we would learn our cousin Doug was one of the many Indigenous children caught up in the Sixties Scoop. I do understand the history, how wrong it was to take these children from their families and the importance of reconciliation today. It is unfortunate that we did not get a chance to give you our heart felt apology in person. I am truly sorry that you lost your culture, language, identity and did not find your way home.
My thoughts are prayers are with you and your family, may you rest in peace!
Sincerely,
Connie Simmons (Lepore)
