Karl Kuhnlein, beloved husband of Edeltraud Rosemarie Kuhnlein (nee Neumann) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the age of 91 years.

Karl was born in Karlstadt, Bavaria, Germany on October 21, 1930, to parents, Georg and Magdalena Kuhnlein. As a teenager in his native Germany, he apprenticed as a brick layer and then immigrated to Canada in 1953. Karl married Edeltraud Neumann in 1960. Karl accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his grandchildren. They really loved spending time with him on ‘Omi and Opa’ day, where numerous hours were spent playing Lego; eating Opa’s raspberries and tomatoes; and marveling at his amazing Marklin model railroad that he had lovingly crafted over several decades. Karl also enjoyed travelling, he and Edeltraud travelled to almost every corner of the globe. He especially enjoyed visiting his birthplace of Karlstadt and his childhood home of Lohr, where he had many relatives and friends. Karl’s favourite saying was “If you do something, do it right” and he lived that saying with everything he did. He will be most remembered for his devotion to his family which included countless fishing trips, Sunday drives, camping trips and the Omi and Opa days. He was one of the original Calgary Airport White Hatters where he volunteered for over twenty-six years, greeting people from around the world and making many new friends.

Besides his loving wife, Karl is survived by his sons, Roy (Betty Ann) and Glen (Desirée); and four grandsons, Eddie, Robbie, Bennett, and Matthew. Karl is also survived by his brothers, Lorenz (Christine) and Bill; and sister Maria; as well as  his brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
