Obituary of Garth Manly Greenwood

June 12, 1934 - Carnduff, Saskatchewan

December 22, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Garth Greenwood, beloved husband of Barbara Greenwood (nee Smith) of Calgary, AB, passed into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Garth was born in Carnduff, SK, to Bessie Turner and Harold Greenwood on June 12, 1934. Garth attended public and high school in Carnduff, followed by the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a degree in Engineering with a specialty in Geology. He met his wife Barbara Anna Smith while attending university, and they were married in Saskatoon in 1957.

In 1956, Garth joined Standard Oil of California (Chevron) and enjoyed a 37 year career working in Calgary, Edmonton, and Houston. His work in hydrodynamics and sedimentary geology contributed to the development of modern enhanced production techniques. Garth was a registered professional engineer (P. Eng) in Alberta and Saskatchewan, a member of APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta) and AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists). Garth was an active member of his community and church and was involved with numerous charities. He enjoyed golf and was a long-time member of the Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary.

Garth is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Elizabeth (Kevin Chinook) Greenwood, son James (Nancy) Greenwood, and daughter-in-law Diane Greenwood, all of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Ryan (Laura-Lynn), Colin (Julie Barton), Erin, Megan and Jamie; and great-grandchildren, Vienne, Ellis, and Jones. Garth was predeceased by his son Kevin, brother Miles, and parents Harold and Bessie (Turner) Greenwood.
