Obituary of Neil Crawford Howell

Neil Crawford Howell, beloved husband of Irene Howell (nee Walaker), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the age of 94 years.

Neil was born in Calgary, Alberta. He attended Crescent Heights High School, where he was well known for his athletic prowess in baseball, basketball, football and hockey. Neil was a self- educated and self-taught man. After working several jobs (draughtsman, firefighter, etc.) he worked in the oil industry, where he worked his way up to an executive position.  The industry he loved provided him opportunities to travel around the world, live and work in places such as Brisbane and Queensland Australia and Tel Aviv, Israel. After years of hard work, Neil and Irene retired to the Comox Valley in B.C. to fulfill a dream of salmon fishing and “catching the big one.” Being retired gave him the time to pursue a dream of art; sketching and painting.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Laurie, William and Stephen; grandchildren, Catherine, Sarah, Brendan and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Carter and Charli Rose.

Neil is also predeceased by his daughter Donna.

The Howell family would like to thank the staff at Newport Harbour Continuing Care Centre for taking such wonderful care of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  We will miss his love, laughter and large than life personality forever and ever. Amen.
