Obituary of Marjorie Louise Francis

July 22, 1929 – Duck Lake, Saskatchewan

December 25, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Marjorie Francis (nee Cook), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at the age of 92 years.

 

Marjorie was born in Duck Lake, SK, on July 22, 1929, the daughter of a CNR station master. She moved to Prince Albert where she completed high school, and then to Saskatoon where she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan (St Paul’s Hospital) in 1951 with a degree in Nursing.  In the early 50’s she met Robert Francis on Halloween eve and married him in 1953 on Boxing Day. They were married 63 years before his passing in 2017.  Being the wife of an oil Engineer, she moved with Robert, and later her children, to places such as Southern Ontario, Camrose, Norman Wells, Regina, Houston, and Edmonton before settling in Calgary in the early 70’s.

 

Marjorie had a passion for teaching. She obtained her Master’s in Adult Education and taught nursing in Edmonton and Calgary. She later developed education modules on Medical Terminology, Menopause and Adult Aging, and taught these topics through Continuing Education. She was an avid knitter, and enjoyed travelling with her husband, Bob, after retirement. She was quick with a smile and had a sharp sense of humor.

 

Marjorie is survived by her children Margaret and James of Calgary and a sister Barbara Paetsch of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nephews and nieces in the US, Ontario, Manitoba, and BC. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Eileen Francis and Alice Francis.

 

Marjorie was predeceased by her mother Rose Cook (nee McKay) and father Charles, as well as her adopted parents Alice (nee Sharpe) and James Bryce, and aunt Alma Anderson (nee Sharpe). She is also predeceased by her brothers Frank, Howard, Henry and Gordan Cook.

 

There will be no Funeral Service at this time for Marjorie, a memorial may be planned for a future date.
