Obituary of Sybil Margaret Dockrill

DOCKRILL, Sybil Margaret (nee Biss)

June 16, 1935 – Bristol, England

December 23, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

 

Sybil Dockrill, beloved wife of Tony Dockrill, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at South Health Campus at the age of 86 years.

 

Sybil was born June 16, 1935, in Bristol, EN. When she finished school, she went on to train as a Nursery Nurse, caring for young children, from birth to five years old. Married in 1967 in Reading, EN, she immigrated to Canada in 1975 with her husband and four children. After raising her children, she returned to her beloved profession of caring for babies and small children. She spent many happy years at both the Calgary Jewish Center Day Care and Petro Canada’s Pumpkin Patch Day Care, where she made many friends.

 

After retiring in 2001, Sybil moved with her husband Tony to Kelowna, BC. Here, they started a bed and breakfast, helped by good friends Fred and Gaby Geismayr. They would spend the off-season traveling the world together. Sybil was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved to help others.

 

Besides her loving husband, Sybil is survived by her four children, Susan (Dennis) Dong of Calgary, AB, Caroline (Tom) Nielson of Calgary, AB, Matthew (Natalia) Dockrill, of London, ON, and Alan (Alanna) Dockrill of Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Sybil was predeceased by her father William George Biss; her mother Janet Russell Biss (nee Bell); and brother Russell Biss.

 

Private Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (14540 Parkland Blvd SE, Calgary, AB T2J 6L5 ) on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Okotoks Cemetery. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Dockrill’s service streamed live (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I1CseYr99M) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

 

The family would like to extend many thanks to the wonderful staff of Alberta Health Services, the emergency department and units 66 and 78 of South Health Campus. As well, thanks to We Care Home Health Services for their dedicated care of Sybil for over five years.
