Obituary of Thora Maud Cutts
May 24, 1923 – Edmonton, Alberta
December 28, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with sincere sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Thora Cutts (nee Stewart) of Calgary, AB, on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 98 years.
Thora was born on May 24, 1923, in Edmonton, AB. She led a full and active life, particularly excelling at ladies’ fastball, which she played during the 1940s, travelling to parts of the USA and Canada for games. She had many hobbies, including gardening, swimming and square dancing, she stayed active well into her senior years. One other notable attribute was her elegant handwriting and journaling, she kept a daily calendar beside the phone and would write down tidbits of everyday items. Thora and Eddie, her husband of twenty-four years, moved to Calgary from Edmonton in 1960. She resided at 77 Fredson Drive from 1963 until 2015, when at that time Thora moved to Beaverdam Lodge, Age Care Seton, and then to her final residence of Silverado Seniors.
Thora is survived by her four children, Katherine, Deborah, Donald, and Douglas; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Auntie Thora had a special fondness for her nieces, Joan and Pat. Thora was predeceased by her parents, Maude Gwen Stewart and Donald Gavin Stewart; and seven brothers and their wives, Keith and Netta, Walter and Ruth, Fred and Kay, Kenny and Lillian, Gordon and Jean, Doug and Marg, and Hedley and Gwen.
A Celebration of Thora’s Life will be announced at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here. Mom loved her cats, Felix and Skeezix. Our deepest gratitude goes to all the caregivers and staff who made Mom’s life enjoyable and fulfilling in her senior years. A special heartfelt thank you to Dana Daunais for her unwavering dedication, kindness and love, over many years, to the well-being of our Mom.
