Obituary of Leona Gail Saunders

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Saunders of Calgary, AB. Gail passed away peacefully on December 31, 2021 at the age of 66 years. 

She was born in Calgary, AB, on November 4, 1955 at the General Hospital. Gail was a pioneer and beloved member of the casino industry and community in Calgary; starting her career in 1974 to her retirement in 2020. Gail will forever be the legendary, peace-loving, hippy friend to all who knew her. Gail married her soulmate, Jerry Saunders in 1992. They shared many wonderful years together.  Whether it was them bantering back and forth over their favourite football teams or travelling to many places including Gail’s most memorable vacation to visit her in-laws in Nova Scotia. 

Gail’s deep love and compassion for animals was unsurpassed.  Gail and Jerry opened their hearts and home to many over the years, which they loved and cared for as their own children.  "To a life well spent bringing joy and laughter to others."

Gail is survived by her three siblings, Heather (Jeffrey) Lohnes of Calgary AB, Bobby (Becky) of Livelong SK, and Terry (Cheryl) Elliott of Airdrie AB, as well as numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews and many more family and friends. Gail was predeceased by her husband Jerry, mother, father and stepfather.
