Just days shy of Louise Gibson’s 95th birthday, she was reunited with her late husband, James Gibson, through the saving grace of her Sweet Jesus. Jim and Louise fulfilled the mystery of two becoming one –and thus a tribute to their Great Love is the legacy that was left to the generations that follow and deserves to be recorded.

Who of us, does not long for perfect love – a love that sacrifices everything for the good of the other? That is content whether they are abound or abase – knowing that they already have it all. A love so great, that to simply sit in the stillness of it, is fulfillment defined. As Jim would often chime when asked how their day was: “She looked at me, and I looked at her. Today was a good day.” Their love was always before them and would linger behind, as strangers and close friends alike would feel a shift in the atmosphere when they entered a room. The people that knew them, knew their currency was love. They were that couple that you looked to and would say to yourself “I want that.”

Their lives weren’t without immense suffering or hardship, and that as well was a testament to the love that sustained them. Together, they buried their son, John Gibson as a young adult and in their final chapter together, endured a brain cancer diagnosis, and later passing of their oldest daughter, Janet (Greg) Small. They suffered well, not allowing it to put out their light or their joy. Jim’s boisterous laugh and Louise’s giggle opened hearts and broke down walls.

Although Louise endured four years without Jim, the foundation they established together was firmly in place and he remained very alive in her heart. She persevered until the very end, with her head high, learning to let go and embrace the unfamiliar with resolve and a deep, renewed expression of love. Jim and Louise have been reunited with their humble family of four, and they leave behind three grandchildren; Katheryn (Channing) Plaza, David (Kate) Small, Richard Small, and five great grandchildren: Elliot, Madalyn and Justus Plaza, Brooklyn and Bennett Small.

In living memory of Louise Gibson, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.
