Obituary of Colleen Patricia Brennan

BRENNAN, Colleen Patricia

April 29, 1964 - Calgary, Alberta

January 4, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Colleen passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, tragically another victim of opioids. We're all heartbroken because she didn’t die from an overdose. She died trying, trying to live, trying to be happy, trying to get free of addiction. With the loss of Colleen come tears and the hard reality, life is messy… No family is perfect. But as a family, we are focusing on and remembering the beauty of Colleen. She was the most joyful and wonderful person, was the life of the party, with her strong spirit, amazing green eyes and huge smile she would light up the room, and her laugh could be recognized and loved from across the roar of even the Calgary Stampede. Career was not the focus in Colleen's life, although she excelled as an aesthetician with her own salon, her passion was family time with camping being one of her most cherished. Every summer since birth Colleen would come alive in the great outdoors. She LOVED it! Her ideal moment; out in the woods, by a lake, with a roaring campfire, roasting marshmallows, singing songs, sharing a beer, and laughing with her family. Her love of nature included gardening, she had a natural green thumb and eye for companion planting. She also had a deep love for animals. Having grown up in a house where there was; cats, dogs, rodents, fish, and amphibians, she favoured birds. She owned a number of them from small, adorable budgies to large, majestic Macaws and Amazons. She was extremely knowledgeable about birds and even bred Macaws for a while. Colleen had a big heart and loved so many things; fast cars, hard rock, roller skating, wrestling, horror movies, refurbishing old furniture, summer days… the list goes on. Though she loved many things, her deepest love was for her sons, Joel and Alex Laurie. She cherished them with all her heart and was so proud of them both. She loved her brothers, Murray, Bob and Mike and sisters, Gail, Terri, and Joan, and she missed her parents Ed and Kay Brennan who are now holding her in their warm and loving embrace. Rest in peace Colleen and enjoy the sun shining on your beautiful face.

Colleen is survived by her two sons, Joel Laurie, and Alexander Laurie both of Calgary, AB; her three sisters, Gail Ellis (Larry Ellis), Danny Ellis, Ashleigh Ellis all of Beaumont AB; Terri Brennan of Burnaby BC., Derek Brown of Vancouver BC., Kevin Brown of Calgary AB, Krysta Brown of Vancouver BC, Scott Wallace of Okotoks AB, Joan Fedoruk (Ken Fedoruk) of Vancouver BC; her two brothers, Murray Brennan (Pat Brennan) of Okotoks AB, Mark Brennan of Kelowna BC, Tawnya Brennan of Calgary AB, Michael Brennan (Cori Brennan), Chloe Brennan, Elli Brennan of Red Deer AB.
