Obituary of Jean Carol Reckord

November 20, 1938 – Montego Bay, Jamaica

January 13, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Jean Reckord, beloved mother, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Jean was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. “Darling Jean” to her close family and friends, was one of six sisters and three brothers, born to Webber and Violet Taylor.  She worked in the bank where she met her husband, David. Jean and David were married in 1961. With David’s work they lived in Trinidad, then England and back in Jamaica, before immigrating to Calgary in 1975, where Jean worked for the Bank of Montreal.  Jean always took care of her family and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She was known for hosting many family celebrations and was an amazing cook when it came to Jamaican cuisine. Jean was always reaching out and connecting to her family and many friends across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Jean was predeceased by her husband David in March 2019. She is survived by her two sons, Andrew (Kaci) and Mark (Heidi); and four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Matthew, Nicole, and Megan.

A Funeral Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the funeral home. Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Reckord’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. Jean fought a determined battle with multiple myeloma and the family is grateful to the Tom Baker Cancer Center and associated health care providers for the care they provided Jean over the past six years.
