Obituary of Ross Samuel WILLIAMS

April 12, 1933 – Winnipeg, Manitoba January 21, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta Ross Samuel Williams, beloved husband of Maureen (nee Davidson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 85 years. Ross was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1933, graduated from Kelvin High School in 1950, completed three years of Engineering at the University of Manitoba, and graduated from United College in Winnipeg in 1960 with the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Divinity. Ross received his Masters of Sacred Theology from the University of Winnipeg in 1987. After ordination in 1960, Ross was called to minister at Roblin United Church, followed by callings to Central United Church (Calgary) in 1964, John Black Memorial United Church (Winnipeg) in 1967, Scarboro United Church (Calgary) in 1978, and Westminster United Church (Regina) in 1981. During his ministries, Ross focused on outreach and support to local communities, youth, and church organizations, and provided personal, family, and pre-marital counselling. On behalf of Calgary Presbytery, he hosted an open-line radio counselling program. He also served as Chair of United Church Presbyteries in Winnipeg and Regina. Ross and Maureen were married in Kenora, Ontario in June 1958. Their son David was born in Roblin in 1961, followed by their daughter Dianne in Calgary in 1967. Following his retirement in 1992, Ross and Maureen moved to Calgary in 2001. Ross was an avid builder with a broad range of interests and skills in construction. He also enjoyed automotive mechanics, model railroading, and photography. His favourite recreational activities were designing, planning, and building at his beloved cottage on Lake of the Woods, Ontario. There he enjoyed boating, waterskiing, and sharing time with family and friends. Besides his loving wife Maureen, Ross is survived by son David (Donna, Nicole and Jacqueline), daughter Dianne Beech (Brian, Ethan and Arden), and sister Joan Irwin (Doug). Funeral Services will be held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church () on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Church.
