Janet (Jan) Bruneau (nee Smith)

Obituary of Janet (Jan) Amy Bruneau (nee Smith)

August 14, 1937 - January 14, 2022

Janet Bruneau, beloved wife of David Bruneau of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the age of 84 years.

Loyal to the end with a deep sense of community, oozing with beauty, character and charisma, loaded with artistic and culinary talent and generous to all she loved; that was Jan.

Jan grew up in Red Deer, AB, establishing lifelong friends with the 'YaYa Sisterhood': Sharon, Joyce and Norma. She moved to Calgary and hit the ground running. She graduated from Calgary's Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing and shortly after married Dave. They were lovingly united for 61 years. Jan was the cherished mother to Jill, Linda and Brian, Ted, and kitten Lacey; greatest grandma to Zuni, Dexter, Danté and Luke; and adored sister to Lorne and Lou and the Macdonald clan.

Jan was the life of the party and a free spirit. She was a joyful mother and dedicated wife.  Jan and Dave laughed, delighted in each other's company, and traveled the world. With gusto, Jan supported her kids in any crazy endeavour they suggested.  She was loyal to her friends.

Her kindness was bountiful, and she volunteered extensively. Her spirituality included her daily 'prayer jog'. Even after a debilitating stroke seven years ago, she was tenacious, funny, and fiery to the end.

We adore you JB, marvelous and mischievous matriarch of our family. As a Portuguese gentleman named 'Mr. Cork' once wrote: 'God bless your lovely eyes, Jan'. Jan will be forever in our hearts and souls.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held. A Celebration of Janet’s Life will be announced at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Janet Bruneau, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
