Obituary of Patrick Kenneth Farley

May 23, 1952 – Vancouver, British Columbia
January 14, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Patrick Kenneth Farley, beloved husband of Patricia Pearce, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the age of 69 years.

Patrick Farley was born in Vancouver, BC, on May 23rd, 1952. He was raised in a loving home with his brother Greg and his late parents, Shirley and Kenneth. The family enjoyed fishing, skiing, hiking, and camping in Whistler and the lower mainland of BC. Patrick later traveled the world, buying one-way tickets to Southeast Asia, touring India, hiking in the Himalayas, and traveling by train across Europe. As a young man he worked collecting geology samples in the Yukon and high Arctic.  He had many stories of adventure including canoeing down the Yukon River and driving across Canada in his VW Beetle to learn French in Trois Rivieres, Quebec.

Patrick attended Simon Fraser University to obtain degrees in Geography with a minor in Kinesiology. He specialized in teaching Industrial Arts and his creativity inspired many interesting woodworking and metals projects for his students. He taught for many years at W.G. Murdoch school in Crossfield, where students were entertained by his stories and jokes.

He and his loving wife, Patricia Pearce, enjoyed thirty happy years of marriage. In that time, they had two lovely daughters, Laura (Sunil Singal) and Sarah (Robert Barnes). The family had many adventures together, including spending summers in Whistler and Vancouver Island, and traveling to the Maritimes, Northern Canada, the US and the UK. Patricia and Patrick enjoyed travels to France, Italy and New Zealand in their retirement. Many summer mornings at home started with coffee on the deck in the beautiful backyard and many days were spent walking, hiking, cycling, bird watching, gardening and enjoying all aspects of nature. Patrick enjoyed volunteering with the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation counting golden eagles on their migrations over the Rockies. He also got great pleasure from his aquariums and creative projects.

Patrick is dearly missed by his wife, daughters, brother Greg (Lynn), sister-in-law Brenda (Bruce), brother-in-law Doug (Susan), and many nieces and nephews. He will always be lovingly remembered. The optimism, humor, and work ethic he exemplified was instilled in his family.

A Celebration of Patrick's Life will be held in the spring. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Nature Conservancy of Canada https://natureconservancy.ca/en/. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
